The Department of English, BAIUST, arranged ‘Meet the Writer Program and Creative Writing Workshop’ on 30 September 2019 in the BAIUST Auditorium. The program started at 10:00 am. Kaiser Haq, an internationally eminent poet, essayist and translator was the guest author of the program. Brigadier General K M Salzar Hossain, ndc, psc (Retd.), Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Col Prof. Md. Mosharrof Hossain (Retd.), Treasurer, and Col Suman Kumar Barua (Retd.), Registrar, were present in the program. Under the title “My Journey as a Bangladeshi English Poet”, Mr. Haq dwelled on how he came to write in English which purports to the inclusion of a literary piece in world literature. He also drew on the history of English writing in the subcontinent and how his choice of English as the medium of creative writing tags along.
The author’s talk was followed by a Creative Writing Workshop facilitated by the guest author who perused a number of poems written by faculty members and students of the department, and elucidated tips for improvement in the light of aesthetics and poetics.
Simultaneously, an exhibition of Mr. Haq’s books of poetry collection, translations, and essays offered everyone on the campus the opportunity to flip through them and collect their picks on the spot.
In his round-up remarks, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor expressed his pleasure attending the program and thanked, Kaiser Haq, for his kind visit to the Department of English, BAIUST. Later Mr. Haq visited Mainamati War Cemetery and Queen Mainamati Palace located near BAIUST Campus.
